6 Steps to Prep Your Homecoming Outfit
Windsor Stylist
Homecoming season is in full swing! If you have no clue where to start your journey to becoming best dressed, especially if you’re attending your first homecoming dance, no need to fear. Most don’t like to admit it but no matter how confident they appear, even the most seasoned senior student has been in your shoes and has totally freaked about what homecoming outfit to wear and what to do. We’ve ALL been there, tbh. To ensure a smooth and nearly stress-free dance for you, your date, and your friends, stay tuned for a quick and easy 6-step guide on how to prepare for homecoming 2019.
#1 Pick the Perfect Homecoming Dress
Are you attending this year’s dance with a date, or are you and your besties getting the squad together for a night to remember? Whoever you’re going with, coordinating homecoming outfits is a must. Although staying in sync is the first step, be aware that it doesn’t mean twinning as this can look way too cheesy in photos. Going with your BFFs means having the opportunity to still show off your own individual styles while complementing each other; show the world how a group of unique personalities can come together. Picking a color scheme, such as dresses in different shades of pink or little black dresses in varying lengths and styles, would be a great alternative. Just make sure to have fun and make sure everyone agrees on their outfits for the night; no one wants to be forced into a theme they don’t like or an outfit that just doesn’t suit them. Even if you’re ditching your girls to go with a date or just rolling up like the solo badass you are, find a homecoming dress that’s uniquely you to set the stage for a memorable, photo-worthy evening.
#2 Select the Chicest Homecoming Accessories
A dress without the right accessories is just… a dress! Snoozefest, right? Step outside of the boring box and glam it up for the evening. Windsor has all of the glitzy and sparkly accessories you need for the night so you can truly shine. Not a fan of bling and love a dainty, minimal look? We’ve got you covered there, too. From gorgeous stud and chandelier earrings, chokers and lariat necklaces, to hair accessories that perfectly accent those darling details on your semi-formal attire, we’ll make sure you have all the right finishing touches for the ultimate homecoming look. Don’t forget about the two homecoming accessory essentials: your heels and handbag! Step your dress game up with sassy caged heels, or rhinestone heels that are fit for a princess. Now that you’ve checked off all of your clothing essentials for the evening, choose a compact glam glutch or bag to carry your beauty basics in so you can party on with no worries.
#3 Play Up Your Manicure
Sometimes, there’s nothing like a fresh mani and pedi to help a girl feel put-together. We all love to be pampered! Whether you prefer to keep it simple with a nude gel mani or go all out with french ombre acrylics, make sure your nails don’t clash with your homecoming outfit. You don’t want your neon pink claws to take all the attention away from your gorgeous rose gold sequin dress, do you? However, if you want to play up your mani and complement your homecoming look, find a few trendy rings that you can wear alone, or mix and match in endless combos. We’ve even got some adorable dainty toe rings if you want to complement your pedicure and heels, too!
#4 Put on Your Homecoming Face
While some girls have the energy to put on a full face of makeup every day, the rest of us are more get-up-and-go with almost nothing to our morning routine. This dance is your chance to take that extra hour or two to put a glamorous beat on! As much as we love a dramatic look for the evening, we suggest keeping your makeup pretty, fresh, and simple, especially for those who are attending for their first time or planning to dance and sweat the night away. Play up that leftover summer glow by finding the right shade of foundation, and an easy 3-in-1 palette that includes a bronze contour, a warm highlight, and a rosy blush. Top off that fresh-faced glow with and a pretty pink or nude lipstick or gloss. No glam makeup look is complete with keeping your eyebrows on point and finishing off your look with a pair of wispy lashes.
#5 Style Your Homecoming Hairdo
Believe it or not, your hair is an accessory to your overall homecoming look. The right hairdo and homecoming hair accessories can literally help make or break your outfit, so it’s important to find a style that works well with your dress. The first place to look when it comes to deciding on a hairstyle? Consider the neckline you’ll be wearing. Typically, for a strapless or off the shoulder neckline, we suggest keeping your hair down, either with simple loose waves swept to the side with a trendy pearl hairpin, or a half-up-half-down style. This helps to balance out a bare neck or chest area. For our babes rocking a halter, mock neck, long sleeves, or anything that provides extra coverage on top, we suggest pulling your hair up and away from that gorgeous face of yours. An elegant updo with loose curls, a sleek low side bun, or even a simple high ponytail will look so chic. Add dainty rhinestone or leaf hairpins to play up your updo.
#6 Say Cheese for Cute Homecoming Pics
Now that your look is complete, start your memorable night off with a mini photoshoot with your date or besties! With all those days spent picking out the perfect homecoming dress, makeup look, hairdo, and accessories, this glam up should definitely be captured on camera and shared on Snapchat, Instagram, and wherever else you can post.
